Wanted, one person to help people cross safely at Stonecross Junction

by awitherick on 22 June, 2010

Thanks to the sterling efforts of a number of local residents we met today with Highways and County Council officers at Stone Cross Junction (outside the Cricketers) to discuss safety of pedestrians and parents on the school run.

As a result of traffic/people counts the County Council has agreed to fund, initially for one term, a crossing patrol to cross from the area just adjacent to the Cricketers, across Harpenden Road.

This will mean that some families end up crossing Harpenden Road twice, once at the existing crossing further down towards town, and once with the crossing patrol, but this has the advantage of missing out the narrow pavement further down as well as having to cross the busy junction itself.

Of course now the difficulty is recruiting someone (or jobshare) to help main the spot in the mornings and evenings during term time.  The post is paid at over £6.  If you’re interested please contact:
