Liberal Democrat Minister backs better transport for St Albans

by awitherick on 7 December, 2010

Clear public transport information, more reliable journeys and new fares offers with discounts for commuters are some of the products emerging from “Network St Albans,” a ground-breaking transport partnership in the city.

The unique partnership, which builds upon work already being done countywide by Intalink, was launched at St Albans Civic Centre, with the blessing of Liberal Democrat Transport Minister Norman Baker.

It is aiming to improve quality of life in St Albans by improving transport around the city and reducing congestion, bringing together Liberal Democrat run St Albans City & District Council, the county council, four bus operators, two train operators and the University of Hertfordshire to plan and improve public transport across the whole city, with working groups focusing on different aspects of public transport.

A further innovation also launched at the event is a new travel planning campaign, Fresh Ways to Work, which aims to help small and medium businesses with travel plans that give their employees commuting alternatives to driving, including cycling, car sharing and public transport e-tickets on mobiles.
