Ahead of the game in Leisure

A recent committee meeting looked at the wants and needs of the community around leisure based on responses from a focus group.
Whilst it was a small sample size it was great to see that the councils current efforts are in the direction that people wanted.
A few examples are given below:

Cycling.
Suggested improvements: More information on routes and pathways accessible by public transport.

Council response: A cycling map of the District has recently been published. Details are on a press release: “New cycle map set to boost pedal power in St Albans City and District.” http://www.stalbans.gov.uk/council-and-democracy/press-room/items/2010/June-2010/cyclemap.aspx#0 and on the website: http://www.stalbans.gov.uk/transport-and-streets/walking_cycling/cycle-routes/. Leaflets are also available for off road cycling routes such as the Alban Way, Ayot Greenway and the Nickey Line.

Family and Friends Activities

Suggested improvements: Advertise community space for hire.

The Centre for Voluntary Service (CVS) already produce a comprehensive guide of spaces for hire in the District and it is available on their website:
http://www.cvsstalbans.org.uk/
, or via a link from the District Council’s website. Officers will look at making it more prominent. Also Council owned facilities which are available for hire are also available on the website
