Liberal Democrat Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, Anthony Rowlands, has welcomed the signing of the construction contract with Wilmott Dixon for a new leisure centre at Westminster Lodge.
‘The signing is an important milestone in this major project which will dramatically increase the range of leisure facilities available at Westminster Lodge, so meeting the leisure needs of a wide section of the community. In addition to the 25m x 8 lane pool, 7m x 10m training pool and confidence water area, there will be a sports hall with a capacity for 4 badminton courts, poolside health suite, spa, 200 station fitness gym, exercise studios, climbing wall, crèche, children’s soft play area and a café/bistro.
Left to the Tories and Labour, nothing would have happened. St Albans would have been left with an out of date, inadequate, energy inefficient, disabled unfriendly, costly to maintain and problem ridden facility. Thanks to Lib Dem perseverance, we will have a brand new public facility fit for the 21st Century. This is cause for celebration.’
