Spring into action for Adult Learners’ Week 2011

by awitherick on 10 May, 2011

Discover something new this spring by taking a course at your local Hertfordshire library as part of Adult Learners’ Week (May 14 – 20).

Join in a variety events from IT classes aimed at people with little or no experience of computers to lectures on the past thousand years of history in the county. Visit www.hertsdirect.org/services/libraries/whatsonwhatsnew/discover/ for a full list of events across the county.

Liberal Democrat County Councillor Allan Siao Ming Witherick said: “Learning doesn’t stop with school, college or university.  Indeed many of us have access to all kinds of ways to learn, from educational television channels through to the internet.  These are opportunities to improve skills, or simply learn more about the world around us.”

Many of the courses are free and offer access to valuable life skills from learning computer basics to how to do your shopping on the Internet or how to research your family history online. These sessions last around an hour and take place in an informal, friendly environment.  Trained staff will be available to give one-to-one support so people can learn how to make use of the free computer access available to all library members in libraries across Hertfordshire. Booking is essential for these courses, via the local library.
Adult Learners’ Week is an annual national event to raise awareness of the achievements of adult learners and to encourage others to re-join the learning ladder.  It offers adults the opportunity to have a go at something new by trying one of hundreds of free taster sessions taking place across the UK.
For full information on the range of sessions available in libraries, visit www.hertsdirect.org/libraries/or telephone the Customer Service Centre on 0300 123 4049.
