Keep safe this winter!

Off out to see the relatives for Christmas?

Here are our top three winter tips:

  1. A large number of the burglaries took place in the afternoon to early evening. A simple but effective way to help deter opportunistic burglars is to use timer switches on lamps to make it seem like somebody is home.*
  2. You should also remember to lock all your doors securely, especially if you have PVCu doors which should be ‘double-locked’ by lifting the handle and using the key.
  3. Register your valuables for free on http://www.immobilise.com/. It’s quick and easy to do and means that if your possessions are lost or stolen, any recovered items can be returned to you. It also helps police trace those responsible for the theft as if someone is stopped with your property in their possession, it can easily be identified as not belonging to them.

Officers and staff are working hard but you can help too just by following our simple advice. For more home security advice please visit: http://www.herts.police.uk/advice/crime_prevention/beating_burglary.aspx
