Less than a month to get your party started!

Hertfordshire, and indeed St Albans, had among the highest turn out for people to have Royal Wedding street parties, with parties in roads such as Battlefield Road.

And again this year the County Council is offering the opportunity for streets to apply to close “minor roads” for free.  Cllr Allan Witherick said “I am hopeful that the County Council won’t be too restrictive and really support local communities which want to come together, be it to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics, or just as an excuse to get to know one and other.

I know the value of this as a simple garden project in my own block of flats has helped build more of a community feel.

So if you are applying and are having issues, or want a little help, please do contact me, you’ve less than a month do it in.”

Residents have until 1 May to submit their applications for a street party road closure to Hertfordshire Highways by visiting www.hertsdirect.org/diamondjubilee so there is still time to get the party started.  Parties can be held on Sunday 3, Monday 4 or Tuesday 5 June 2012.
