Although the minute I add “school dinners” it might have turned you off, but it has to be said, school meals have REALLY improved over the decades, with a wide variety now on offer which seeks to be balanced and nutritious.
But for some they are out of range due to the cost, but perhaps not. For some young people it provides a vital meal and gives access not just to other resources, but thank to the Liberal Democrats, gives the school extra funding via the Pupil Premium to help provide extra support.
Parents and carers could be eligible for free school meals and they can quickly find out whether they qualify and apply online at www.hertsdirect.org/freeschoolmeals. This could save families over £300 per child per year and in most cases there is no need to provide proof of benefit.
There is a wealth of information online at the School Food Trust web site (www.schoolfoodtrust.org.uk) to help parents and carers make informed decisions on school meals as well as the diet and health of their children.
