Harpenden Road, Green Lane, Old Harpenden Road and Sandridgebury Lane junction improvements

by awitherick on 1 May, 2011

Many will be aware of the concerns and problems that we have had along Harpenden Road, with a number of accidents involving the various junctions.  In particular we’ve had accidents with the junction with Green Lane.
Local Liberal Democrat County Councillor Allan Siao Ming Witherick has had numerous meetings with the Highways officers to explore what options could be done to help residents whilst causing minimal disruption.
As such the following remedial measures have been chosen to address the problems detailed above:-
  • High friction surfacing on the northbound and southbound approaches to each junction. This measure will not only highlight the junctions but also enable vehicles to stop more quickly.
  • Signage improvements, including new junction ahead warning signs, and cleaning of existing signage.
  • New KEEP CLEAR road markings at Sandridgebury Lane.
  • Re-marking of the existing road markings, including the KEEP CLEAR markings at Green Lane / Old Harpenden Lane.
Councillor Allan Witherick said “We’re hopeful that these changes will have the desired effects, however, we’ll be keeping a close eye and are already working out other alternatives to address the issues if there aren’t any improvements.”
