Salt still scarce

by awitherick on 15 February, 2010

As we watch predictions of sleet, snow and rain alternating on the weather forecast the Tory County Council is still operating a reduced salting route which neglects the majority of Marshalswick South.

Some of this could have been avoided if they’d stocked up properly and PLOUGHED the roads instead of just relying on grit when the snow was bad.

The maps showing the location of Salt bins also appear to be questionable on the county website.  If you have a suggestion for the location of a Salt bin please do contact us.  As reported here previously we’re looking at options to try and mitigate against Tory County Council failures in future.

So people do drive carefully:

Tips for driving in icy conditions are available on the County Council's website and include:
• Always take care when driving in icy conditions and never assume that the road is clear of ice before setting out
• Don't make unnecessary journeys when the weather is bad and, in extreme conditions, stay off the road
• Move more slowly, steer smoothly and brake gently
• Use gears to slow down to minimise the risk of skidding
• Keep your distance from the vehicle in front
• Plan a route that keeps to treated roads, trunk roads and motorways where possible
• Be prepared for unexpected delays
• Keep sunglasses handy to avoid glare from low winter sun
• Keep windscreens clean
• Check the local and national weather forecasts
• Listen to local and national radio for travel information
• Tell someone what time you expect to arrive
• Clear your windows and mirrors before you set out and carry a screen scraper and de-icer
