88 % of the European community fish stocks are today being unsustainably fished. It’s a startling number with extremely serious implications:
Comprehensive and ambitious reforms are urgently needed if we still want to see fish on our menus in 10 years time. Europe already has too many boats chasing too few fish. If there is to be hope for the future the fish must be given a chance to breed before they are caught.
In the European Union parliament Andrew Duff MEP and the Liberal Democrats work in ALDE for reform not just of the CAP (Common Agricultural Policy) but also of the Common Fisheries Policy, with an ecosystems-based approach for fisheries management.
That’s the only way to ensure that our grandchildren are able to enjoy a healthy diet with the fish we enjoy today.
