A Special Weekend

by awitherick on 8 February, 2011

THE MAJORITY of the Constabulary’s Special Constables will be on duty to support the 10th National Specials Weekend, with this year’s theme being tackling Anti-Social Behaviour.

The weekend, which runs from Friday February 11 to Sunday February 13, 2011, will see most of the county’s 404 Special Constables on duty.

Hertfordshire Special Constables are recognised as one of the best performing teams in the UK and are on track to perform 140,000 duty hours this year. The support provided by our 404 Special Constables in helping to combat crime and anti-social behaviour will become more important as we face unprecedented financial cuts across the Constabulary.

Local Liberal Democrat Councillor Allan Siao Ming Witherick who used to be a member of Hertfordshire Police Authority said “Volunteering as a Special Constables can be incredibly rewarding. The majority have full-time jobs or are students. You just need to be willing to give a minimum of 16 hours a month.”

For further information about Specials, please contact Specials Chief Officer Peter Mould on 01923 472576.
