Could you get help in a foreign country in an emergency?

by awitherick on 2 March, 2011

Anywhere in the European Union 27 member states, dialling the numbers 112 will put you through to the local emergency services – ambulance, fire brigade and police – free of charge.

Yet only about 1 in 10 people in the UK know about the 112 number.

In addition, all EU countries’ emergency services call centres can now handle emergency calls in English. Language barriers shouldn’t prevent someone from getting help when they need it.

Most mobile phones can use it already- just remember it next time you’re away.

Councillor Allan Siao Ming Witherick said “The European Union is about the small things, not just the large.”
