Part night lighting in Marshalswick South

by awitherick on 10 February, 2012

As part of the Conservative-run County Council’s efforts to reduce expenditure, they have implemented a policy of ‘part night lighting’.

They are rolling out a one-size-fits-all approach which will see the lights go out at midnight in most areas. Currently the only exceptions to this are where the lights have been kept on for safety reasons, for example around traffic calming measures and CCTV.

The Lib Dems’ policy is that this is simply not flexible enough: for example, lights should be kept on later on a Friday or Saturday night, or in areas like St Albans where commuters often having to come home later.

As your local councillor, Allan Witherick, has also been working to keep lights on at night in areas, such as near to the Hospital. Where there’s a particular cause for concern, we’ve been asking for extra lights to be kept on.
